Joseph Smith, Mormon Founder on The Bible:The Prophet later said: “I believe the Bible as it read when it came from the pen of the original writers. Ignorant translators, careless transcribers, or designing and corrupt priests have committed many errors. … Look at [Hebrews 6:1] for contradictions—‘Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection.’ If a man leaves the principles of the doctrine of Christ, how can he be saved in the principles? This is a contradiction. I don’t believe it. I will render it as it should be—‘Therefore not leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection. 2. History of the Church, 6:57–58; paragraph divisions altered; froma discourse given by Joseph Smith on Oct. 15, 1843, in Nauvoo, Illinois; reported by Willard Richards; see also appendix, page 562, item 3.
The 12th president and prophet of the Mormon Church, Spencer W. Kimball, said, “One of the most fallacious doctrines originated by Satan and propounded by man is that man is saved alone by the grace of God; that belief in Jesus Christ alone is all that is needed for salvation.” (Spencer W. Kimball, “The Miracle of Forgiveness”, Salt Lake City Utah: Bookcraft.)
Mormon prophet Brigham Young taught, “I have power to save myself, if I do not save myself, who will save me? All have the privilege, and naught can save us but obedience to the commandments of God.” “Baptism for the remission of sins,” receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost thru laying on of hands, paying tithes, prayer, “& day by day fulfill all the duties required at your hand; such a course is saving in its nature” (Brigham Young, J.D. 1:312)
Brigham Young says: "No man or woman in this dispensation will ever enter into the celestial Kingdom of God without the consent of Joseph [Smith}. . . ." "He reigns there as supreme a being in his sphere, capacity, and calling as God does in heaven."
